Michael Yamashita, a travel photographer for National Geographic, presents a fascinating and beautiful photographic look at Nakchu, Tibet’s summer festival celebrating their prized horses, once the treasures of the ancient Tea Horse Road.
With Tibet’s doors again closed to visitors, this is a poignant and rare glimpse. Let’s hope doors don’t remain closed to the outside.
Can’t wait to get my hands on Michael’s book, Shangri-la: Along the Tea Roads to Lhasa (White Star, Autumn 2012). Really beautiful work and a fascinating insight into how the ancient tea and horse traditions of China and Tibet have developed into modern day festivals.
